On September 25th , 1915 fishermen on Amherst island, which is halfway between Picton and Kingston, watched helplessly from shore as the schooner "City of Sheboygan" sank during a violent storm taking with her all five of her crew members. The Sheboygan was a 135 foot, 3 master that was built in 1871 and had transported goods upon the Great Lakes for 45 years. She is one the most fantastic sites I have ever seen underwater, and amazingly divers have been diving on this wreck since 1963, yet she is almost completely intact. |
